Saccharomyces cerevisiae improves IBS symptoms
We explored how Saccharomyces cerevisiae affects patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In a study involving thirty participants, we administered 500 mg capsules of this yeast twice daily for four weeks. Weekly evaluations showed significant improvements in abdominal pain and general quality of life, with notable reductions in pain scores and enhancements in various aspects of daily living. This suggests Saccharomyces cerevisiae could be a valuable treatment option for alleviating IBS symptoms.

We conducted a study to assess the effectiveness of Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-3856 in treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Using a randomized, placebo-controlled design, 100 newly diagnosed IBS patients received either the yeast or a placebo alongside standard treatment for 8 weeks.

We found significant reductions in abdominal pain and improved stool consistency in patients taking S. cerevisiae compared to the placebo group. All subgroups, including IBS-D, IBS-C, and IBS-M, showed notable benefits without serious adverse events.

Our findings suggest that S. cerevisiae can be a promising add-on therapy for IBS relief.

We explored the impact of the probiotic I-3856 on managing irritable bowel syndrome with predominant constipation (IBS-C) through a thorough eight-week randomized, double-blind study involving 456 participants.

The findings showed that 45.1% of those taking I-3856 reported significant relief from abdominal pain compared to 33.9% in the placebo group. While I-3856 improved quality of life scores, the study did not demonstrate significant changes in bowel movement frequency.

Overall, I-3856 shows promise in alleviating abdominal pain and enhancing quality of life for those suffering from IBS-C.

Jarrow Formulas saccharomycetes do not settle in the intestines but pass through the gastrointestinal tract unscathed, offering a healing effect. It effectively treats acne, diarrhoea, irritable bowel syndrome, and enhances nutrient absorption. Completely safe, I take it with me on journeys instead of bacterial probiotics. Highly recommended!

Symptoms largely reversed

Saccharomyces Success! About seven years ago, I had an ulceration in my lower colon and ended up hospitalised for it haemorrhaging. Mega doses of antibiotics were used in treatment, without any confirmed diagnosis of a bacterial infection. After battling gastrointestinal issues for years, I had nearly accepted a life of symptomatic IBS/IBD, enduring countless trips to the bathroom daily. I researched extensively and identified iron overload and a devastated gut flora as culprits. I donated blood and began taking Jarrow Formulas Saccharomyces Boulardii, alongside a high-quality probiotic. I’m pleased to say that virtually all my IBS symptoms have been largely reversed. I'm unsure if it is due to the blood donation, the Saccharomyces Boulardii, or both, but I plan to monitor my iron levels and maintain my probiotic regimen.

S. boulardi is not a typical probiotic; it is a yeast-like fungus that travels through the intestines, helping to curb pathogenic growth and restore normal flora. Its use is beneficial during antibiotic treatment and for those suffering from irritable bowel syndrome.

Saccharomyces boulardii benefits IBS model
We explored how Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM I-745 influences gastrointestinal issues related to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) using a mouse model. By inoculating mice with Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 to simulate IBS symptoms, we found that the probiotic improved gut motility and reduced inflammation. After four weeks of treatment, the probiotic not only enhanced intestinal movement but also restored nerve structure integrity and decreased harmful cytokine levels. Overall, Saccharomyces boulardii shows promise in addressing IBS-like symptoms in our animal study.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae alleviates IBS-D
We investigated how saccharomyces cerevisiae affects gut motility in rats undergoing repeated water avoidance stress, simulating diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome.

The study revealed that treatment with saccharomyces cerevisiae significantly reduced excessive defecation and colonic hypermotility. We noted improvements in the contractile activity of colonic muscles, along with changes in immune responses and gut microbiota diversity.

Overall, saccharomyces cerevisiae showed promise for alleviating symptoms associated with IBS-D by addressing both gut motility and inflammation.

Saccharomyces boulardii may aid IBS
We explored how Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM I-745 impacts intestinal motility, particularly in the context of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) with diarrhea. Using isolated rat ileum, we observed that S. boulardii can significantly reduce contractions induced by serotonin, suggesting it helps to regulate bowel movements.

This probiotic appears to work by inhibiting serotonin-induced contractions, providing insight into its potential effectiveness for those suffering from IBS. However, it didn’t influence contractions caused by acetylcholine, indicating a targeted action on serotonin pathways.

Saccharomyces boulardii aids IBS-D
We assessed how Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM I-745 affects patients with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) linked to small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). In our study, patients received either the probiotic with dietary advice or just dietary advice for 15 days.

Those taking the probiotic showed a greater decrease in bacterial overgrowth and better improvement in digestive symptoms. Specifically, the reduction in digestive distress was more pronounced, and the friendly bacteria F. prausnitzii increased among these patients. Our findings suggest that further exploration of this promising probiotic is warranted.

S. boulardii shows no benefits
We conducted a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial to understand the effects of saccharomyces boulardii on diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In our study, thirty-five patients received either the probiotic or a placebo for a month.

After careful evaluation of symptoms and quality of life before, during, and after treatment, we found no significant differences between the two groups. This suggests that saccharomyces boulardii didn’t provide any real benefits for patients suffering from diarrhea-predominant IBS.
